June 9-10, 2022: UKMHD2022 meeting

Over the past four decades or so, the annual Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) meeting has become established as the leading national annual gathering for discussing the challenges and opportunities in Astrophysical, Geophysical and Laboratory MHD. This meeting will look to the UK’s researchers and their collaborator’s scientific achievements in the subject.

Sessions will address key research topics investigated by the UK MHD community giving priority to young researchers to present their work. With senior participants from across the country, poster presentations, and informal discussions, this two day meeting will provide you with the opportunity to meet the authors and listen to the research work carried out in various research groups.

21 April 2022 — MHD School 2022

Dear all,

with this email I announce that the MHD school will be held in April and May, 2022.
The program of the school is available at the link MHD School 2022 (

This course held in English is designed for students, engineers and scientists from industry and research centers who wish to improve their knowledge in the field of applied Magneto-hydrodynamics.

Although the theoretical background of MHD is reviewed, the course is mainly oriented towards the numerical methods and application to industrial processes.

Participants should have a degree in applied mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, materials science, metallurgy, or chemistry.

Private or group discussions can take place at the end of the lectures, in order to treat more specific problems which the participants may raise

People should register in the webpage.

Best regards,

Abdellah Kharicha

16-08-2022: 9th International Symposium on Bifurcations and Instabilities in Fluid Dynamics (BIFD22)

9th International Symposium on Bifurcations and Instabilities in Fluid Dynamics (BIFD22)

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the 9th International Symposium on Bifurcations and Instabilities in Fluid Dynamics (BIFD22), August 16–19, 2022 is extended to March 13, 2022.

August 16–19, 2022, University of Groningen,

The Netherlands

The aim of the conference is to bring together some of the best scientific minds to discuss their research and address problems and opportunities related to new developments in bifurcation analysis in complex fluid flows. Moreover, the conference offers a platform for talented young scientists to present their work and to build their network in the field. In general, this international meeting is held every two years, with the last three events held in Paris, France (2015), The Woodlands, USA (2017), and Limerick, Ireland (2019).

The scope of the conference ranges from industrial applications to academic model problems, and from experimental, to computational and theoretical studies. See below for the conference subjects.

  • Abstract submission opens: January 14,  2022
  • Deadline for abstract submission: February 28, March 13, 2022
  • Notification of acceptance: April 15, 2022
  • Registration opens May 14, 2022
  • Early bird registration closes: June 30, 2022
  • Late registration closes: July 31, 2022

The following subjects will be distributed over parallel sessions:

  1. Films, drops and liquid bridges
  2. Magneto- and electrohydrodynamics
  3. Active fluids: biophysical fluids, reacting flows, crystal growth
  4. Computational, numerical and analytical methods
  5. Flows driven by buoyancy, density gradients and/or Marangoni effect: e.g. convection, geophysical flows
  6. Mechanically-driven flows: shear flows, rotating flows, Taylor-Couette flows, lid-driven cavity flows, Poisseuille, pipe flows
  7. Bifurcating flows in labs and applications, experimental methods
  8. Control of instabilities and parametric excitations
  9. Miscellaneous: Non Newtonian flows, multiphase flows, flows in porous media, microfluidics, multiscale phenomena, compressible flows, transition to turbulence studies, inference of rare events

Abstracts can be submitted through the abstract submission form which can be found on the website below.
